  • Are You In Love with The Short Story Writing (And Reading)?

So, you love the short story. Perhaps your favorites are the ones that cast a spell in spite of their raw unfinished endings. That’s nice sometimes. Others swear by the cosmic twists O.Henry and Jeffrey Archer made popular. Those are fun and thrillingly unexpected too.

At its heart, the short story writing (as well as reading!) is a celebration of human complexity and our collective vulnerability. And once you tap into that, you start to read, write, and appreciate short fiction in extraordinary ways.

Have you ever wanted to write slightly surreal like Murakami or get real with the honesty and detail Ismat Chughtai mastered? Perhaps you’ve wanted to lurk in darker worlds like Joyce Carol Oates, or capture the everyday struggles like Raymond Carver. Or maybe straight-up contemporary is more your style. Maybe you’ve never even read any of these authors but you want to be pulled into a new world where you get to examine (or reexamine) the potent impact these global writers had on the world. And you definitely know you want to understand the craft and be made aware of the skills you’ll need to hone to write your own. Well then, we have the perfect weekend for you.

  • The Art & The Craft Of Short Story Writing

Long Story Short, a 2-day intensive creative short story writing workshop, that is going to be fun, challenging, and community-driven is a part of our initiative to develop a comprehensive set of creative writing courses in Bangalore in all its genres. It will hone your skills as a writer and build an appreciative ability for giving and receiving constructive critique.

We’ll concentrate on the short story writing in this workshop. You’ll read a selection of global shorts that’ll fuel some pretty intense conversations on history, gender, society, science, politics, and sexuality. You’ll also respond to writing prompts and even write and edit your short story during the course of these two days.

You don’t have to fit into any particular category to enjoy this workshop. You can be a bookworm or a person who has barely read this year. You can already be a published author or just have some secret scribblings tucked under your bed yet. Only as long as you are excited to experiment with the art of the short story writing in its depth, the workshop Long Story Short belongs to you!

We’ll really get into the art of short story writing, down to the arc of each sentence and the after-emotion of every paragraph. Oh, we should mention, you’re going to make some new friends in this intimate workshop. You’ll understand just how powerful and exhilarating it is to bond with a group of strangers and express yourself through the written word.

Long Story Short: A Creative Short Story Writing Workshop In Bangalore is for adults (18+) who are passionate about writing, reading, and are looking for a tighter grasp on the art and the craft of short story writing. Beginners are welcome too!
